HIV is Not in Recession


Activsts during a press confference at ICC Durban
Activist argued that while the world is experiencing global economic crisis, HIV and TB are not in recession. Treatment Action Campaign and its partners staged a protest at the Southern African AIDS in Durban. The conference co-coincided with the G20 meeting which was held in London. This was send a message to the G20 Leadership that they must not underfund the HIV/TB programmes and give a global recession as an excuse.

The activist also aim to sending a message to South African Government and thoseresponsible for the Free State Moratorium not to be repeated and advance to other provinces.

In South Africa daily, about 1000 people are newly infected with HIV while more than 800 die everyday.

A week earlier before the conference, TAC and HIV/TB Care marhced to parliment demanding better TB prenvetion strategies and support.
